Daily Crime, Fraud, and Scam Reports

Daily Crime Report

As a reminder, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT call citizens and solicit money to avoid being arrested. We are being notified of fraudulent calls where individuals are claiming to be deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, requesting money to avoid arrest or civil penalties.

Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office is seeing a reoccurrence of scams where the scammer is sending individuals checks with a victim's cash, telling you to keep a part of it, and send the scammer the remaining funds. Please be cautions on social media platforms with individuals sending checks and asking for money to be sent back to them.

Vandalism

Vandalism was reported in the area of Old NC 10, HIllsborough. Victim reported multiple messages being spray-painted onto the outside of their personal property. Investigation ongoing.

Fraud

Fraud

Fraudulent charges were reported by a victim in the area of Bolinas Ct, Chapel Hill. The victim's financial information had been used to make purchases, as well as sign up for various email services. Victim has been provided with enxt steps to take.

Scam

Scam

A scam involving fraudulent charges by crypto-currency exchange sites was reported. The victim has been scammed out of a sizeable sum of money, each such exchange site claiming to ahve been able to recover the victim's lost money from one of the other sites, for a fee, but never did so. Victims were provided with next steps to take.

B&E of a Motorized Vehicle

A breaking and entering of a motorized vehicle was reported in the area of Trace Rd, Hillsborough. Victim reports break-in ocurred over night, and some items were stolen from the vehicle. Investigation ongoing.


Breaking and Entering

A breaking and entering of a private structure was reported in the area of Tanya Drive, mebane. Victim reports the back door was found unsecured and a safe containing several items of value was stolen from the location. Investigation ongoing
