The Major of Courts, Detention and Transportation is responsible for the daily operation and security of three courthouses, one operational detention facility, and the ongoing construction of a new detention facility. As a subsection to both court and detention, the Major also has a transportation division which serves both the court and detention facilities, as well as provides mental health transports from UNC Hospital to hospitals across the state.
