Motor Unit
The Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit is a Specialized Unit that is utilized to perform traffic enforcement, funeral escorts, dignitary escorts, attend public relations outreach events, and educate the public on motorcycle safety. The unit utilizes the Harley Davidson FLHP Electra Glide motorcycle.
Each motorcycle is equipped with front and rear Radar for performing speed enforcement. Each deputy that is a member of the Motor Unit has completed an 80 hour Basic Police Motorcycle Rider course and receives regular in service training on rider skills.
Motor Deputies also are trained assessors and instructors in the "Bike Safe" program, a motorcycle rider safety course sponsored by the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
