Investigation Bios

 

Maj. Tim Horne - Is Major of the Criminal Investigation Division for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. During his twenty eight year tenure with the Sheriff’s Office, he has held positions in the Jail, on Patrol, and in the Investigation Division. He began his investigative experience as a crime scene specialist before becoming a field investigator, and later a supervisor over the Division.

 

Major Horne has served in the Criminal Investigation Division for the last twenty one years, where he specializes in forensics, homicide investigation, and firearms.

Major Horne has completed over 4,000 hours of specialized law enforcement training and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee National Forensics Academy.  He has extensively trained with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in radiological material, chemical agents, and explosives.

 

Major Horne has also been awarded his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and Advanced Service Award from the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Commission.

Major Horne has also served as a member of the Special Response Team (SRT) for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for twenty three years. He was one of the original team members selected when the Team was organized in 1993. He has risen through the SRT ranks from an operator, to team leader, and finally to Commander of the Special Response Team. He oversees all tactical operations and deployments for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Lieutenant Chris Upchurch - Criminal Investigation Division with Orange County Sheriff’s Office began his law enforcement career in 1993 with the NC Division of Motor Vehicles. He joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 1994, serving in positions in the Detention Center, Patrol and Civil Divisions before being assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he has served for the last 17 years. He currently serves as supervisor of Criminal Investigations and Sex Offender Unit.

He has extensive training in the field of criminal investigations and interview and interrogation. He has been awarded the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate, North Carolina Criminal Investigator Certificate and the Advanced Service Award.

He has served as an Operator on the Special Response Team for the past sixteen years, primary role is sharpshooter.

Prior to entering law enforcement, he served honorably in the United States Army for four years.

Sgt. Josh Wood - Is the Sergeant of the Criminal Investigation Division. He has served in law enforcement since 1998. During his tenure, Sgt. Wood has worked in the Jail, Patrol, and Narcotics Division.

Sgt. Wood has extensive training in the field of Investigations and K-9 operations.  In 2009, He became certified as K-9 Instructor through Florida Department of Law Enforcement in Broward County Florida.

 

He has received certifications through United Police Canine Association and International Police Work Dog Association.

Sgt. Wood has been a member on the Special Response Team since 2003 and currently serves as Deputy Commander on the team.

 

He is a lifelong resident of Orange County and plays a role in mentoring youth from Orange County by coaching youth sports and assisting with sport related camps.

Investigator Jason Nazworth – Criminal Investigation Division with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Investigator Nazworth received his certificate for Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) from the Durham Police Department in 2009, where he served as a squad leader.  After BLET completion, he began his service with Orange County as a Patrol Deputy, later being promoted to the rank of Corporal.

 

He has earned  certificates in Crisis Intervention Training, SWAT Operator Training, Field Training Officer, Police Law Institute, and yearly in service training related to various aspects of law enforcement.

 

In 2016, Investigator Nazworth was promoted to Investigator and was assigned to  the Criminal Investigation Division.  He has received extensive training in the field of criminal investigations and in interview and interrogations.  His current duties include  Criminal and Special Victim’s Unit cases, Sex Offender Registry unit, and the State Bureau of Investigation: Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

 

Prior to entering law enforcement, Investigator Nazworth served honorably from 2001-2005 active duty service in the United States Marine Corps.
