Courts and Transportation

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office bailiff is the first point of contact when entering the Courthouse. Tasked with facility security, the bailiff searches and confiscates any unauthorized contraband that may pose a risk to occupant safety.

Additionally, the bailiff declares the entry of the judge into the courtroom, keeps order during trials, and enforces courtroom rules.  In the case of jury trials, the bailiff ensures no unauthorized communication exists and that the jury is appropriate sequestered. Lastly, bailiffs escort inmates to and from court and the Detention Center.

This division transports behavioral health patients and prisoners to both Department of Corrections and other county detention centers, as well as medical facilities daily. If an inmate is to appear in court in another jurisdiction the Transportation division makes the appropriate arrangements.
